Sister Faith & Gnatak

When I was little, I loved theatre like most other kids. Only a little more. But I never got the good parts. In Sleeping Beauty, I got to be the voice behind the mirror that said "You are the fairest of them all." I was meant to be the Mean Queen, but wasn't as good as another girl (at least the nuns told me that), so they stuck me behind a mirror instead. BUT...! I knew something was brewing inside me. Then by the 8th STD, I started winning everything - debate, elocution, inter-school dramatic etc and I was on! Finally, when I was in the 10th, a miracle happened. A theatre company called Gnatak used to rehearse at my school - Sophia's. One day Sr.Faith took me to this really gorgeous man called Gracias Devaraj and said "Now you are in safe hands" and handed me over. Thus began a lovely learning and experience of theatre for me. I was thrust straight into a lab situation - exactly like the work you all are doing. There were men and women all experimenting and working on their bodies and voices. Can you imagine how exciting that must have been for a 15 year old? We were directed by a terrific actor called Ashok Mandanna (remember Sangamitra who wrote Sadako for us? Ashok is her dad) and we worked on a text called Three Sisters by Anton Chekov. I had many, many halcyon days of working with Gnatak and feel sure that I am still with theatre because of the great wisdom and intuition of Sr.Faith. Thanks soooooooo much Sister.
